Open Source

InstaShare is built with open-source software. This page credits that work and reproduces the notices those licenses ask us to keep with the app and website.

WebRTC

File bytes travel on an encrypted WebRTC data channel between the paired devices. The Android app includes a WebRTC implementation. The website uses the WebRTC APIs provided by the browser.

WebRTC is licensed under a BSD-style license with an additional patent grant. Redistributing that software in the app requires us to keep the following copyright notice, conditions, and disclaimer with the product.

Additional IP Rights Grant

Additional IP Rights Grant (Patents)

"This implementation" means the copyrightable works distributed by
Google as part of the WebRTC code package.

Google hereby grants to you a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive,
no-charge, irrevocable (except as stated in this section) patent
license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import,
transfer, and otherwise run, modify and propagate the contents of
this implementation of the WebRTC code package, where such license
applies only to those patent claims, both currently owned by Google
and acquired in the future, licensable by Google that are necessarily
infringed by this implementation of the WebRTC code package. This
grant does not include claims that would be infringed only as a
consequence of further modification of this implementation. If you or
your agent or exclusive licensee institute or order or agree to the
institution of patent litigation against any entity (including a
cross-claim or counterclaim in a lawsuit) alleging that this
implementation of the WebRTC code package or any code incorporated
within this implementation of the WebRTC code package constitutes
direct or contributory patent infringement, or inducement of patent
infringement, then any patent rights granted to you under this License
for this implementation of the WebRTC code package shall terminate as
of the date such litigation is filed.

Other open-source software

InstaShare also uses other open-source libraries on Android and the web, including Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, CameraX, and ML Kit. Those projects are typically licensed under Apache License 2.0. Their full license texts are published by their authors.
